Heat relief on the way for Dallas-Fort Worth as a cold front returns to North Texas
After a week of sweltering temperatures, North Texas will see some relief early next week as a cold front rolls in.
North Texas had its first taste of summer this week as temperatures topped 90 degrees, with heat index values right around triple digits. A high pressure system or “heat dome” was partially to blame for the uptick in the hot and humid weather.
It will be a warm and sunny weekend for North Texas as temperatures are expected to be in the mid to high 90s, said Monique Sellers, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
A cold front will move into the Metroplex over Sunday, with storm chances increasing that evening and overnight into Monday. Storm chances will continue into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday, Sellers said.
It’s too early to determine if these storms will bring severe weather, but rain is likely. After possible lingering storms on Wednesday, the heat returns to the forecast.
“We start getting back into the 90s, unfortunately,” Sellers said.
With storm chances in the forecast for North Texas on Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will be slightly cooler in the region.
High temperatures will dip into the mid to upper 80s on Monday and Tuesday, followed by the early 90s on Wednesday. Later next week and into the weekend, temperatures are expected to be back up in the 90s.
