New storms slow work to restore power as Oncor fixes outages in Dallas-Fort Worth
Storms that brought heavy rain, winds and flooding to Dallas-Fort Worth on Thursday night and Friday morning have created additional power outages and caused delays to Oncor’s restoration efforts, the utility company said.
Oncor still estimates that its crews should restore electric service to the majority of customers who are without power by Friday evening. But the company said its work will continue in some of the hardest-hit areas through this weekend.
The communities most affected by the power outages that have been ongoing since Tuesday morning include North Dallas, East Dallas and Mesquite.
The storm earlier this week knocked out electricity to over 650,000 homes and businesses in north-central and east Texas. As of Friday morning, Oncor said its teams have restored service to more than 600,000 customers and about 50,000 remained without power.
About 12,000 workers including Oncor employees, contractors and the utility’s mutual assistance partners are “working around the clock to restore outages both from Tuesday’s storm as well as the most recent storms,” Oncor said in a Friday news release.
