Parts of North Texas can expect severe storms Wednesday, ranging from heavy rainfall and gusty winds, to small hail.

The best chance for storms Wednesday begin around 5 p.m. and ends about 2 a.m. Thursday, said Miles Langfeld, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

Rainfall totals could range anywhere from two to three inches Wednesday, Langfeld said. The main threat for flooding are areas just west of the Metroplex: Decatur, Mineral Wells and Glen Rose.

“But we can’t rule out some localized flooding issues inside of the Metroplex,” Langfeld said.

North Texas rain totals this week aren’t breaking any records, but there has been significant rainfall.

The NWS climate site at the DFW International Airport recorded 0.65 inches of rain Monday and 1.08 inches Tuesday, for a weekly total of 1.73 inches. Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport wasn’t far behind, recording 0.83 inches Monday and 0.88 inches Tuesday for a total of 1.71 inches.

Mineral Wells Airport had a large total as well, recording 1.06 inches Monday and 0.74 inches Tuesday for a total of 1.80 inches.

After Wednesday’s severe weather passes, North Texas can expect a calmer Thursday and Friday, with a few moderate rain showers.

Rain chances will continue into the weekend as a cold front moves into the Metroplex, Langfeld said. By Sunday and going into early next week, the high temperature is expected to dip into the 50s while the low may flirt with the low 40s and high 30s.

The temperature isn’t expected to get down to freezing, but trick-or-treaters can expect a brisk Halloween night on Tuesday.

“Halloween forecast looks like mostly dry weather but pretty chilly,” Langfeld said. “May be a bit breezy with highs in the low to mid 50s.”
