North Texas will see a slight break from the summer heat before returning to triple digits this weekend.

A cold front has made its way past the Metroplex, bringing sub-100 degree temperatures in its wake, said Miles Langfeld, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

Monday is expected to be around 94 degrees, followed by Tuesday at 97, Wednesday at 98 and Thursday back at 98 degrees. But triple digits are in the forecast for Friday and continuing into the weekend, Langfeld said.

There are rain chances in the forecast this week for central Texas, but nothing up north around the Metroplex, he said.

“We’re going to enjoy these next few not so hot days,” Langfeld said.

As of Monday, North Texas has recorded 47 days over a 100 degrees this year, which is tied with last year for sixth all-time for number of 100-degree days for the year. The hottest temperature recorded this year is 110 degrees — on Aug. 25 and 26.
