Don’t take out the sweaters yet — North Texas weather is about to heat up again.

After a 21 day streak of triple digit temperature, the Dallas-Fort Worth area felt some slight relief this week with highs in the mid 90s Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, temperatures are expected to rise again starting Thursday with excessive heat warnings imminent.

So, what gives?

Sarah Barnes, National Weather Service meteorologist, said the “cooler” weather North Texas saw Tuesday and Wednesday was the result of a cold front.

The summer time pattern will return Thursday, with a high of 110.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth forecasts excessive heat through the weekend with highs near 110.

Barnes said next week will be slightly less hot, but still in the triple digits.

Excessive hot and dry conditions have elevated the fire risk in Texas, including around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A potentially critical fire threat could happen between Friday through Sunday for areas west of Interstate 35, according to the weather service.

As far as when North Texans can expect cooler temperatures to return, Barnes said it’s uncertain.

“Honestly, in the near future no, nothing is really pointing toward anything,” she said. “It doesn’t look like there’s much relief on the horizon.”
