Did it really rain last night in Fort Worth? Here’s what the weather service has to say

North Texans may have heard thunder or felt rain drops for the first time in a month this week.

Some parts of North Texas did see rain over Wednesday night, but the official record keeping station for the National Weather Service at DFW International Airport did not, said Hunter Reeves, meteorologists at NWS’ Fort Worth office.

Most areas that reported rain only saw trace amounts, which is any quantity below 0.01 inches.

“Maybe it was just enough to disturb the dust on their cars,” Reeves said.

DFW International Airport recorded trace amounts of rain on Tuesday, but that’s been it for the entire month of August.

July fared a little better, with the airport recording 0.47 inches of rain over the month. June was higher than that, but only at 0.78 inches of rain.

The NWS is tracking a similar set of storms for Thursday, comparable to what North Texas saw on Tuesday and Wednesday, Reeves said.

“As far as any kind of meaningful rainfall that would help out, it’s not looking too great unfortunately,” Reeves said.

As of Thursday, North Texas has recorded 32 days with temperatures over triple digits. The hottest day of the year was on July 18 at 108 degrees.
