Texas Governor Greg Abbott directs emergency response resources ahead of severe storms

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday that he directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to prepare state emergency response resources ahead of the severe storms expected to move across the state.

“The State of Texas is fully prepared to assist local officials and emergency response personnel on the ground to keep our communities safe,” Abbott said in a statement. We remain on standby to provide any additional resources that may be necessary over the course of this storm.”

The showers and thunderstorms that hit Dallas-Fort Worth on Wednesday are expected to be followed by tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. The severe weather is expected to reach Dallas-Fort Worth between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management activated urban search and rescue teams of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service.
