Are we done with winter? Fort Worth could finish out the month without a chance of snow.

Unlike the last few days of January when freezing temperatures created icy hazards on roadways all over Fort Worth, the weather warmed up the first weekend of February.

This trend may hold through the end of the month, said Sarah Barnes, meteorologist at the National Weather Service Fort Worth office.

Fort Worth may see some rain next week, but snowfall may be behind us, Barnes said.

But since we’re in Texas, Barnes warns not to rule anything out.

“Late February and early March are kind of anything goes basically,” she said. “Keeping an eye on the weather is always a good idea at this time of year.”

The weather can do pretty much anything this time of the year, Barnes said.

The snowiest month of the year in Fort Worth is February, where the average snowfall is 1 inch. This has been the case the last two years with 2021 getting 5 inches and 2022 1.7 inches, according to records kept by the NWS.

Only trace amounts of snow have been recorded by the NWS for this month.

At the moment the weekend’s forecast looks warm.

“It should be a nice weekend, no rain chances and gradually warming up, thankfully,” Barnes said.
