Damaging microbust winds, rain might be part of your hot summer day in North Texas
It’s true.
There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in Tarrant County and North Texas on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
And guess what, some light showers fell in north Tarrant County on Thursday morning.
The increasing clouds on Thursday will keep high temperatures lower than they were in the past few days. The high temperature on Thursday will be about 100.
“The afternoon probability is not big, but we definitely have a chance of rain,” said meteorologist Juan Hernandez with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth on Thursday. “The storms could be fairly small, and they will not be widespread.”
Rain chances will return Thursday afternoon, and most of the storms will be near and north of Interstate 20, which may not help with wildfires burning farther south. Damaging microbust winds and frequent lightning will be possible with the strongest storms.
There is a 20 percent chance of storms on Friday, with the best chances in East Texas. A few storms may generate strong wind gusts and frequent lightning. Daytime temperatures on Friday should be at 100.
If it does rain at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport on Thursday, it could break a streak.
The airport has a current streak of 47 days without measurable rainfall, and it ranks as 8th on the list of most consecutive days without measurable rainfall since records began for the site.
The record is 84 days from July 1 to Sept. 22, 2000, according to the NWS in Fort Worth.
Rain chances are gone by the weekend, but higher temperatures will return. The Saturday high will be at 102, and it should be about 103 on Sunday.
