April 2022 among windiest recorded in Dallas-Fort Worth area, weather service reports
This April was among the windiest recorded for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with winds averaging 15.3 mph.
April is typically the windiest month of the year with winds averaging around 12.2 mph. According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, last month tied for the eighth windiest April.
Daniel Huckaby, a meteorologist with NWS Fort Worth, told the Star-Telegram that the higher winds were a result of the spring transition season, with different temperatures and pressures from the cold air up north and the warm down south.
Cold air intrusions in the U.S., including snowstorms in the Northeast, have contributed to a clash of air masses which causes higher winds, the Star-Telegram previously reported.
