Grab your umbrellas this weekend and brace for a line of showers and thunderstorms with chances of heavy rain, some possibly strong to severe, expected to last until Tuesday and usher in a cold front.

The National Weather Service predicts rainfall from late Saturday through Monday night to reach 2-3 inches in Fort Worth and 1.5-2 inches in Dallas.

A wind advisory also is in effect from noon Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. A south wind will prevail between 20 and 30 mph with some gusts to 40 mph. Unsecured outdoor items may be blown around in the wind. Driving on east/west-oriented roads may be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Isolate showers and storms are possible Saturday night, ahead of cooler weather with limited potential for severe weather, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Chances of strong to severe storms should increase Sunday as the weather system blankets DFW and escorts lower temperatures into the region.

Sunday’s storms are likely to bring heavy rain to North Texas, especially along the cold front, setting the stage for some possible minor flooding. Those storms are expected to continue Monday with continued heavy rain, but the potential for severe storms will be limited and strong storms are less likely, according to the service.

The exact impacts of the weather are still uncertain, the National Weather service said, and North Texans should keep an eye on the forecast for any changes or advisories about strong or severe weather.

“Though a few strong or severe storms, as well as locally heavy rainfall are possible, many details remain unclear with actual threats being unclear,” the National Weather Service said. “Rain and storm chances will last into early next week. Minor flooding is also possible with this storm system.”

The weather service is predicting Dallas-Fort Worth to be hit with a couple inches of precipitation, with amounts greater than 3 inches in isolated areas.

Rain chances are forecast to end during early morning Tuesday, when lows are expected in the mid 40s to mid 50s. The afternoon high is projected to be in the low to mid 70s Tuesday before warming up Wednesday and Thursday when the high could climb into the mid 80s.
