Fort Worth is under a wind advisory Tuesday as severe thunderstorms and precipitation are expected to begin Tuesday night and continue into the Wednesday forecast.

“A very windy day is on tap, with partly to mostly cloudy conditions with humidity on the increase, especially across the eastern half in advance of our approaching storm system,” the National Weather Service said Tuesday morning. “Despite the increasing humidity, even across the west, grasses and small vegetation west of I-35/35W remain quite dry and flammable with an elevated fire danger continuing today.”

The weather service added that a “line of showers and storms,” will begin late Tuesday and continue into Wednesday morning as North Texas has a surface cold front and upper level storm system passing through the region.

“Severe weather is possible, especially across North Texas … including a few brief spin up tornadoes along the fast-moving squall line will be possible,” the weather service said. “However, the primary hazard is expected to be damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph due to the fast forward motion of the line of storms.”

All of North and Central Texas is under a wind advisory, with the strongest sustained winds expected between 1 p.m. Tuesday through 4 a.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts are expected to exceed 40 mph in some areas.

“Some marginally severe hail will be possible with the most robust storms,” the National Weather Service said. “Otherwise, rainfall amounts will average less than an inch in most areas due to the fast forward speed of the line of storms.”

By Wednesday night, skies are expected to be mostly clear.

The forecast has temperatures remaining in the 70s and 80s throughout the week. After showers and storms Wednesday, residents should expect more rain late Friday night and into early next week.
