Fire to the west of me, rain to the east: weather forecast for Dallas-Fort Worth this week
North Texans could see elevated fire risks west of Tarrant County and thunderstorms throughout the rest of the region Thursday, with the most significant chances of severe weather north and east of Dallas County, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Elevated fire danger started in counties west and southwest of Tarrant County on Wednesday afternoon. Any fires that start will have the potential to grow and spread rapidly, the weather service said. Wind gusts as high as 40 mph are expected.
High temperatures across the region are expected to reach about 80 degrees Thursday before a cold front moves in.
Thursday storm chances are expected to increase in areas east of Interstate 35 in the afternoon and evening Thursday, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible in Dallas and Tarrant counties.
In areas with strong and severe storm chances, the biggest threats will be large hail and damaging winds. A few tornadoes also will be possible.
Heading into the weekend, elevated fire dangers west of Interstate 35 are expected to continue through Sunday, with highs in Dallas-Fort Worth climbing from around 65 on Friday to a peak of 78 on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday should see temperatures drop back down into the lower 70s as storm chances return to the area.
