What should North Texans expect with freezing weather this weekend?
Most of the counties included in a winter weather advisory issued Friday in North Texas, including Tarrant and Dallas counties, have had that advisory canceled by the National Weather Service after no more precipitation was forecast.
Temperatures were expected to remain in the low 30s with rain, sleet and snow hitting different parts of North Texas from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Around 3 p.m., the weather service announced the advisory was canceled for most counties, with the exception of some counties in northeast North Texas.
The service replaced the winter weather advisory with a wind advisory until 9 p.m. Friday for sustained winds of 15 mph to 25 mph, with possible gusts up to 45 mph.
Widespread freezing weather is expected to bring temperatures in Dallas-Fort Worth down into the upper 20s Saturday morning, with wind chills in the teens and 20s.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth recommends staying indoors as much as possible, keeping flammables at least 3 feet away from any heat sources and bringing pets indoors. Saturday afternoon and into Sunday, temperatures are expected to be more seasonable with highs in the upper 50s Saturday and upper 60s Sunday.
It’ll also be time to spring forward on Sunday, setting clocks an hour ahead from 2 a.m. Sunday to 3 a.m.
