Showers, thunderstorms expected to hit North Texas over the weekend, weather service says
A cold front alongside the possibility for showers and storms are on the horizon this weekend after a short-lived week of dry, blue skies and sunshine in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
“A warming and moistening air mass will overspread Central and North Texas on Saturday and Sunday. Scattered showers are possible east of I-35 on Saturday, but thunderstorms should be held in check as we will be strongly capped,” the National Weather Service said. “On Sunday, a cold front will approach with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing along the Red River and moving through the region Sunday night. A few strong to severe storms will be possible during this time.”
There’s about a 20% chance for rain Saturday after noon, with wind gusts as high as 30 mph.
The chance for showers increases to 60% Sunday, with thunderstorms likely after 12 p.m. and midnight.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the high 70s and low 80s throughout the weekend, with a dip Monday, where the high is expected to drop into the 50s.
A chance for showers Monday remains possible at about 20%.
