Threat of damaging winds, hail, thunderstorms in weather forecast for North Texas

Chances are good that North Texans won’t get a good night’s sleep Wednesday night because forecasters are calling for thunderstorms, some packing damaging winds and hail.

And there’s a potential for tornadoes, but it’s a low chance, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

North Texans had a sunny day on Tuesday with a daytime high of 70. Parts of the state were under an elevated risk of grass and wildfires Tuesday due to strong winds and warm temperatures.

The weather is expected to change on Wednesday.

First, there will be a slight chance of showers on Wednesday morning with isolated showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon. The chance of rain is at 40 percent on Wednesday.

The high temperature on Wednesday in Fort Worth will be 72.

The main threat of thunderstorms will come Wednesday night.

“The biggest concern is the damaging winds,” said meteorologist Bianca Garcia at the National Weather Service in Fort Worth on Tuesday. “There could be some hail and a slight chance of a tornado.”
