Fort Worth area may see rain, storms Friday night through weekend, weather service says
After a week of sun, blue skies and temperature highs in the mid to upper 70s, Dallas-Fort Worth is expecting to see cooler temperatures at the end of the week into early next week with the possibility for rain and storms, the National Weather Service said.
“A little more unsettled this weekend before then turning cooler late Sunday into Monday,” a tweet from the weather service said. “Still a lot of uncertainty on timing of features and coverage of rain & storms. Right now, areas east of I-35 have the best chances, but severe weather is NOT expected.”
There’s a 20% chance for showers and thunderstorms in Fort Worth starting Friday night. Temperature lows will dip into the high 50s. Potential storms may bring hail and strong winds.
The expected storms will likely hit east of I-35 and I-45 near Central Texas. The weather service is unsure of the exact timing of the cold front, location and coverage of the storms.
“A low pressure system arrives this weekend with off and on chances of showers and a few thunderstorms east of US-281,” the NWS said. “Best chances will be across the Red River Valley and East Texas, where a few strong storms with small hail and gusty winds will be possible. Plenty of uncertainty regarding the timing of the system, cold front, and storm coverage remains with model differences.”
Entering December, the weather service expects drier and warmer weather than usual, thanks to the presence of La Nina. In December, the DFW area usually averages around 48 degrees.
