DFW set a record high temperature Wednesday. Just don’t expect it to last.
The high temperature record for Jan. 15 at DFW Airport stood for 106 years.
It fell Wednesday, when the high at the airport was 81 degrees. That temperature broke the record for the day of 80 degrees set in 1914, according to the National Weather Service.
But conditions are expected to change quickly as rain and another cold front sweep into the area overnight, the National Weather Service said. Isolated and scattered thunderstorms are possible, with rain chances at 60%.
The high temperature is forecast to plummet to about 50 degrees Thursday with rain chances increasing to 90%.
“Widespread severe weather looks unlikely, but a few strong storms capable of small hail and gusty winds cannot be discounted,” the weather service wrote in its forecast.
Storm chances continue on Friday and early Saturday with another cold front. The threat of severe weather appears low, the weather service said.
North Texas should dry out over the weekend with sunny skies and expected highs in the 50s, according to the NWS.
