A crash involving a jack-knifed 18-wheeler with a fuel spill closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 30 to traffic early Wednesday near the line between Fort Worth and Arlington, authorities said.

Drivers were being forced to exit I-30 at Eastchase Parkway. All lanes of I-30 in the area were closed for several hours but have since reopened, according to Arlington police.

The crash was reported about 2:30 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Arlington police said that officers responded to the eastbound lanes of I-30 near Fielder Road to investigate the wreck.

Investigators determined the driver of the 18-wheeler fell asleep behind the wheel and veered off the freeway. The semi truck hit a guardrail and at least one road sign, police said.

The truck driver was not seriously injured and did not require transport to a hospital. The driver has been cited for failure to control speed.

The tractor-trailer “was hauling some type of hazardous material,” which led authorities to shut down the freeway, police said.

Fort Worth police said that hazmat crews responded to clean up the accident scene.
