9-year-old killed, 2 others injured in Collin County crash involving 3 cars and school bus
A 9-year-old was killed and two other people were injured in a crash involving three cars and a school bus in Collin County on Wednesday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The investigation determined that four vehicles were traveling eastbound on F.M. 3286 — just under a mile west of Princeton on the bridge over Lavon Lake — when the first vehicle, a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, failed to control its speed and struck a 2015 Nissan Versa in its rear. The strike caused the Versa to hit a 2018 Chevy Express 3500 van, according to a DPS news release.
The Jeep then hit a retainer wall and side-swiped a fourth vehicle, the school bus.
Jose Junior Loyola, 20, who was driving the Jeep, was taken to Medical City hospital in McKinney with minor injuries, the DPS said.
Jennifer Rascher, 41, of Princeton, who drove the Versa, was also taken to the hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
The 9-year-old, identified as Abigail Kate-Rascher — a passenger in the Versa — was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the DPS.
The drivers of the Chevy and the bus were not injured. The passengers on the bus, students from Princeton ISD, were also not injured, according to a report from Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.
The investigation is ongoing.
