Holiday drivers be warned: Driving through DFW Airport comes with a price
There’s a price to pay for driving through the DFW Airport — anywhere from $2 to $6 dollars to be precise.
But why?
Because the airport relies on tolls to maintain operations, said one airport official.
The airport has to maintain its own roadways, a spokesperson for the airport said in an email. Your toll payments for pick-ups and drop-offs this holiday season, as well as tolls collected from commuters, go toward paying for the airport’s roadways, parking garages and airport infrastructure.
The road through the airport often acts as a through way for commuters who want to avoid congestion on north-south highways such as Texas 121 and Texas 360. If you drive through the airport, don’t use any of the facilities and are there for less than eight minutes, it runs a traveler $6.
And if you’re at the airport for more than eight minutes, the airport counts you as someone who is either picking someone up or dropping someone off, and you’re only charged $2 to $3.
The message to those on airport duty to grab or drop off loved ones? Be early, and take your time.
