You’re not the only one preparing for this week’s winter freeze. The officials at DFW and Dallas Love Field airports are getting ready, too.

That starts with maintaining accurate and up-to-date weather information.

Airports are in daily contact with the National Weather Service and have to-the-minute information, especially when inclement weather is expected.

Local airports also noted it’s critical to be prepared to clear roadways associated with each airport, including airfields and runways. That means having sand, liquid chemical treatment and snowplows on deck.

Airport officials are responsible for conducting friction testing on the runways. From the results of this testing, the Federal Aviation Administration determines if runways are unsafe for usage.

DFW officials also request concessionaires to remain open until the last flight of the day, in case there are delays.
