Planning to drive near DFW Airport this weekend? These freeways will be closed
Motorists planning to drive on the freeways just north of DFW Airport might want to make alternate plans this weekend.
In Grapevine, several of the busiest freeways in North Texas will be closed to make way for demolition work, starting at 8 p.m. Friday and continuing possibly until 6 a.m. Monday.
The closures include:
▪ The westbound bridge of Interstate 635 — also known as LBJ Freeway — to southbound Texas 114/121.
▪ The southbound Texas 121 bridge to eastbound I-635.
▪ Northbound Texas 121. Traffic will be detoured to I-635, then the westbound I-635 on-ramp at Royal Lane back to northbound Texas 121.
▪ Southbound Texas 121. Traffic will be detoured to Bass Pro Drive.
▪ The westbound I-635 ramp to southbound Texas 114/121 and the north entrance to DFW Airport. Traffic will be detoured to Royal Lane and Bass Pro Drive.
▪ Southbound Farm Road 2499 to SH 121. Traffic will be detoured to the southbound FM 2499 frontage road.
The closures are needed so that crews can safely perform demolition of old bridge and road work in the area, according to Northgate Constructors, the main contractor.
The work is part of a $371 million makeover for the LBJ/Texas 121 Interchange by the Texas Department of Transportation.
Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes, or if they have to travel in the area to expect delays. For more information, visit dfwconnector.com or call 877-411-4212. Also, the project is on Twitter, @DFWConnector.
