Rescue teams resume search for missing swimmer in Lake Lewisville
Rescue teams resumed the search this morning for a swimmer who went missing in Lake Lewisville Sunday night.
A man about 28 years old jumped from a boat into the water for a swim without a life jacket about 8:30 p.m., but never got back to the boat, Texas game warden Kyle Allison said.
The search involving the Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens, Lewisville fire department and Denton County sheriff’s office was suspended about 10 p.m. Sunday and recommenced at 8 a.m.
The swimmer’s girlfriend jumped in to help him after she threw a life jacket to him, but it did not reach him. While she was trying to locate him in the water, the boat started to drift away in the windy conditions.
A nearby fisherman, who heard screams for help, found the woman, picked her up and brought her back to the boat.
Fairly strong winds on the lake may have caused the water to be rougher for the man, Allison said. He recommended that everyone, no matter their experience swimming, have a life jacket on or readily available when out on the water.
“It doesn’t matter if the lake was rough or calm, the life jacket would have kept him afloat,” Allison said.
