Texas beach tragedy: Couple killed when car flips onto their tent
A married couple hoping to start a new life in Texas were killed this week while sleeping on the beach in Corpus Christi. A driver apparently struck their vehicle and it flipped onto their tent, according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
Lisa Marie Loftis and her husband, Brian Loftis, were killed early Wednesday when a 21-year-old driving a pickup slammed into their Hyundai. The case is being investigated as intoxication manslaughter, police told the Caller-Times.
The couple was camping on the beach, near Bob Hall Pier, until they had money for a permanent place to live, a friend told the Caller-Times. They had intended to bring their two children to Texas soon from South Carolina.
Their dog survived the incident Wednesday.

This is the second time in recent months tragedy has struck near Bob Hall Pier in Corpus Christi.
In early April, the body of Mansfield teenager Carlos Perez, 16, was found near there after he disappeared while playing in the surf with classmates. Perez had been in Corpus for the SkillUSA competition for students involved in career and technology education.
