Police video shows Lubbock crash, explosion

A man caused an explosion in Lubbock when he drove his car into a power-line pole, police said in a release accompanied by dash and body cam videos.

A Lubbock police officer responded to a call reporting someone slumped over in a silver Pontiac Grand AM at about 7: 53 a.m. July 15, according to the release. Upon arrival, he saw the driver was unconscious and appeared to have blood on his face and shirt.

The officer broke the passenger side window with his baton after trying to wake the driver, fearing the man might need medical attention, the release states. The driver woke up when the window broke, and drove into a power-line pole. The impact caused an explosion and the vehicle caught fire.

The suspect got out of the vehicle and suffered only moderate injuries, the release states.

D’Morea Quashaveante Robinson, 18, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to a local hospital. He was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Facility when he was released from the hospital. Robinson is no longer detained there.
