Police investigate death of woman found at Midlothian church

A man in police-style tactical gear was seen on surveillance video at a church in Midlothian shortly before a 45-year-old woman was found dead there Monday morning, police said.

Police were still trying to find the suspect Tuesday night.

Terri Leann “Missy” Bevers was found unresponsive about 5 a.m. inside the Creekside Church of Christ off U.S. 287, Capt. John Spann said in a statement.

Bevers, police said, was an instructor for a fitness boot camp scheduled to start at the church at 5 a.m.

The mother of three was found dead “with obvious trauma,” Star-Telegram media partner WFAA reported.

When officers arrived at the church, they found “lots of broken glass” on the floor around Bevers and “evidence of forced entry into the building, indicating a possible burglary,” Spann said.

Police released a surveillance video clip Monday afternoon, showing the suspect wearing a jacket with “Police” on the front and back. The suspect was also wearing gloves, a helmet and other protective gear.

They released a second video clip Tuesday, showing the person walking into a hallway and opening doors.

Police believe that Bevers arrived at the church a little after 4 a.m. to prepare for the class, WFAA reported. The surveillance video showed the suspect inside the church about 3:50 a.m.

Oak Farms Dairy is offering $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person responsible for Bevers’ killing, the company announced.

Anyone with information is asked to call Midlothian police at 972-775-3333.
