Authorities continued searching Monday morning for two Whitney children “believed to be in grave or immediate danger” with their mother, the Hill County Sheriff’s Office said.

An Amber Alert was issued about 2 p.m. Sunday for Lulamae King, 5, and Deondre King, 6, the children of Clifford King, 41, and Cristal Taylor, 27.

Hill County Sheriff Wes Collins said the children are now believed to be with Taylor heading north, possibly into Oklahoma. Taylor is believed to be driving either a blue Dodge Durango SUV or a blue Dodge pickup truck.

On Sunday, the children were believed to be with both of their parents in a white Chevrolet Cavalier. But the car was later found abandoned in Dallas, and King was located nearby without the children.

King told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA Channel 8 on Monday that Taylor and the children were going to a relative’s home in Oklahoma. He said he and Taylor took the children, because they didn’t want CPS gaining custody.

“I feel in my heart this is the best way to handle it,” King told the station. “Not necessarily saying I'm right, but I'm not saying I'm wrong.”
