Teen arrested in Fifth of July fireworks arson case after grass fire
A grass fire started by fireworks was ruled an arson Sunday in Laredo, leading to the arrest of a teenager.
The Laredo Police Department and Laredo Fire Department responded to a grass fire at 3:48 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Opal Road after receiving multiple calls reporting fireworks had caused a fire near a residence.
The Laredo Fire Department controlled the grass fire and requested assistance from police after reviewing surveillance video. The video showed a suspect exit a white Chevrolet Camaro, light fireworks and leave the area before the fire started.
During the investigation, police said the Camaro returned to the scene before quickly driving away. Officers conducted a traffic stop and detained the suspect.
The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Carlos Omar Lisama. He was arrested and charged with arson, a second-degree felony. This is Lisama's first arrest record.
