Driver charged with intoxication manslaughter after passenger dies in Southeast Side crash

A 42-year-old man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after a passenger was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Southeast Side over the Fourth of July weekend, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Nicholas Fernandez was charged with intoxication manslaughter, according to court records. He was also booked on an unrelated 2024 resisting arrest case, records show.

Fernandez was booked into the Bexar County Jail on Sunday. Bail was set at $150,000.

The crash occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday in the 9000 block of the Southeast Loop 410 eastbound access road near San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle crash and found a 43-year-old man dead at the scene. He was pronounced dead by the San Antonio Fire Department.

According to police, investigators determined Fernandez was driving at a high rate of speed when the vehicle veered off the roadway, ejecting the passenger.
