'Ya te fuera tronado': Man charged after allegedly threatening police officer during stop

A man was arrested after threatening to shoot a police officer during a traffic stop, according to the Laredo Police Department.

The incident took place at about 9:50 a.m. June 21 in the 3600 block of Guaymas Avenue when an officer stopped a black Camaro that allegedly disregarded a stop sign.

The front passenger was identified as 43-year-old Ignacio Sandoval Jr., police said. The driver was identified as a 46-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy was seated in the back of the vehicle.

As the officer spoke with the driver, assisting officers approached Sandoval, who complied with commands and exited the vehicle, according to police.

When asked whether he had any weapons, Sandoval allegedly responded, "si tuviera una, ya te fuera tronado," which police translated as "if I had one I would have already shot you."

Jail records show Sandoval was booked into Webb County Jail on a charge of terroristic threat against a peace officer or judge, a state jail felony. He was released the following day after posting a $5,000 bond.

The driver was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign and for not having a driver's license.
