Buckner, 88.1 Family Life Radio kick off Midland Community Shoe Drive

MIDLAND Nonprofit Buckner International is kicking off the Midland Community Shoe Drive through its program Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls in collaboration with 88.1 FM Family Life Radio. The new shoes and socks will benefit children served by Buckner in the Permian Basin and are being collected from June 28 through July 31. Donations can be dropped off during operating hours of the following locations:

The Buckner Family Hope Center at Midland

* 2412 Loma Dr.

* Midland, TX 79705

Buckner Children and Family Services of Midland

* 425 W. Pecan Ave.

* Midland, TX 79705

All donated shoes and socks for children and teens must be new due and closed-toed. The greatest needs are boys' sizes 1-5 and girls' sizes 4-5. Cash donations are also accepted.

"A brand-new pair of shoes allows a child to start school more confident, more comfortable, and with one less worry going into a new school year," Patricia Acosta, executive director of Buckner West Texas, said in a news release. "These donations can change the lives of thousands of vulnerable children at home and across the world. They can offer children health, education, hope, and opportunity."

The shoes collected during the drive will provide hope for children and families in the Permian Basin in time for the new school year. Buckner Midland serves vulnerable children and families in the community through a variety of programs including foster care and adoption, family transition programs, and community-based family preservation programs. Buckner has served the Midland community since July 1996, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
