Temperatures remain below 100 degrees as rain returns to forecast
Laredo's stretch of staying below 100 degrees is projected to continue as temperatures are expected to drop with rain in the forecast.
The high temperature has not reached 100 degrees since May 5. After coming close at 99 degrees Wednesday and Thursday, Friday's high dropped to 96 degrees, followed by projected highs of 94 degrees Saturday and Sunday and 93 degrees Monday.
This is the first time Laredo has gone more than a month without triple-digit temperatures in May and June since remaining below 100 degrees in 2023 until recording a high of 104 degrees June 9.
The last June to stay entirely below 100 degrees was 2015. It had a high of 99 June 12 and 13.
While the high temperature is projected to decrease this weekend, the low temperature is expected to increase slightly. It is projected to rise from 76 degrees Saturday to 77 degrees Sunday and 78 degrees Monday.
The average high temperature this June has been 95.6 degrees, well below the normal of 98.4 degrees. The average low temperature of 76.8 degrees is slightly above the normal of 75.1 degrees. The average temperature of 86.2 degrees is just below the normal of 86.8 degrees.
Rain is projected to return to the forecast Saturday with 0.03 inches. However, heavier rain is forecast to begin next week. Monday has 0.18 inches projected, and Tuesday has another 0.43 inches.
Laredo has recorded only 0.08 inches of rain in June. The projected totals through Tuesday would raise that amount to 0.72 inches through 16 days, putting the month on pace for 1.35 inches. That would tie 1918 and 1967 for the 58th-driest June in recorded history.
The city has recorded 8.57 inches of rain this year. That is below the average of 8.9 inches and ahead of last year's 7.05 inches.
Winds are expected to decrease as rain arrives Monday. Surface winds of 7-16 mph and gusts up to 23 mph are projected Saturday, while surface winds of 6-13 mph and gusts up to 18 mph are projected Sunday. Monday is projected to have surface winds of 5-10 mph with no gusts.
