Midland city employee identified as person killed in June 12 shooting

City of Midland officials have released the name of the person killed in the June 12 shooting.

City officials identified Ed Scott, a city employee, as one of two people killed in the shooting, which also injured nine. The city said the family has asked for privacy. The shooter was also killed.

"Today is one of the hardest days our organization and our community will ever face," the city said in a news release. "We lost one of our own."

City officials also said they wanted to pause and recognize what matters most in these moments.

"A member of the City of Midland family will not be coming home," the city said in the release. "Behind every employee badge is a husband or wife, a mother or father, a son or daughter, a friend, a teammate, and a person whose life touched countless others. Today, a family is experiencing a loss that words cannot adequately describe, and our hearts are with them."

City staff also asked the public to respect the family's privacy and to pray for the family less than 24 hours after the shooting.

"Ed was a person involved in the community, specifically working as an integral figure with local and regional softball organizations," the city said. "Most importantly, he was a loving father and husband and good person all the way around."

Mayor Lori Blong also posted about Scott on social media.

"There are no words adequate right now. Ed Scott was part of our City of Midland family, and today we are all grieving alongside his wife, his children, and everyone who loved him," she wrote. "Please pray for the Scott family tonight. Please give them space and grace. And please join us at Centennial Park at 7:30 p.m. tonight to pray for our community."
