Bryan man arrested on family violence assault charge

A Bryan man was arrested Tuesday after police said he assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute at The Retreat apartment complex on Providence Avenue.

According to police documents, Exzavier Williams, 24, was accused of grabbing a woman by the throat and choking her, then dragging her back into the apartment after she attempted to seek help from a neighbor. The victim told officers Williams pushed her, causing her to fall and strike her head on the floor, and left scratches and marks on her arms.

Officers responded to the apartment shortly after 6 a.m. and observed visible injuries on the woman's arms. Police also reviewed an audio recording in which the victim could be heard repeatedly telling Williams to get off her, according to the probable cause statement.

Williams was arrested and booked into the Brazos County Jail on a charge of assault family violence causing injury, a third-degree felony under Texas law because the allegation involved choking or strangulation of a family or dating partner. If convicted, the offense is punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
