Sapphic Study Hall returns to Laredo Film Society this week

The Laredo Film Society is continuing its Sapphic Study Hall Series in recognition of Pride Month, with this week's session focusing on self-expression and representation in film.

The event, titled Laredo Study Hall: Be Gay, Do Crime, will take place Thursday from 7-11 p.m. at the Laredo Film Society Microcinema, 500 San Agustin Ave., Suite B.

According to the organization, the discussion will explore how sapphic filmmakers choose to represent their communities and tell their own stories through cinema.

Following the discussion, attendees are invited to stay for a screening of a landmark lesbian film from the 1990s that helped shape conversations surrounding representation within the LGBTQ+ community.

Tickets and RSVPs are available through the nonprofit's website at laredofilm.org/tickets.

"We're celebrating sapphic stories, visibility, and community on the screen all month long," the Laredo Film Society said. "Through 4 iconic films, we'll trace the evolution of sapphic representation in cinema while exploring themes of love, desire, rebellion, community, friendship, solidarity, and resistance."

According to the organization, two additional Sapphic Study Hall events remain on the schedule for June.
