New app aims to put Laredo's arts scene in your pocket

An easier way to navigate Laredo's growing arts and culture scene debuted last weekend with the launch of the Laredo Cultural District App, the nonprofit announced.

The app was unveiled Friday, just in time for the June edition of CaminARTE, and is designed to help residents and visitors keep track of arts, culture and community events happening throughout the city.

Currently, the app is available for Apple users through the App Store. An Android version is still in development, according to the Laredo Cultural District.

The Laredo Cultural District App serves as an interactive guide to local cultural offerings, including CaminARTE, film screenings hosted by the Laredo Film Society, symphony performances at Laredo College, art exhibitions, nature programs and other community events.

Its interface includes a home page highlighting cultural partners such as the Laredo Center for the Arts, Tu Casa Grafica and the Laredo Music Scene. Users can also browse a calendar organized by date, search for specific events and view activities across the city through an interactive map.

The Laredo Cultural District said the app is still evolving and that additional features and content are planned.

"The app is a work in progress - just like our Cultural District," the organization said. "More stops, stories, events and updates are coming soon."
