Harmony Public Schools in Midland, Odessa named nationally distinguished STEM campuses
Two Harmony Public Schools campuses in the Permian Basin have received national recognition from Project Lead The Way (PLTW) during the 2025-26 academic year for their commitment to expanding student achievement and access to high-quality STEM education.
The following campuses earned PLTW Distinguished School honors:
* Harmony Science Academy Odessa - PLTW Distinguished Launch School
* Harmony Science Academy Midland - PLTW Distinguished Launch School
The prestigious designation recognizes schools nationwide that demonstrate a strong commitment to student achievement and high-quality STEM education through Project Lead The Way's Launch program for elementary students.
Project Lead The Way is a national nonprofit organization that provides transformative learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, helping students build critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills from an early age.
"We are proud to see both our Midland and Odessa campuses recognized nationally for their commitment to STEM education," Dr. Kamil Yilmaz, West Texas superintendent for Harmony Public Schools, said in a news release. "These honors reflect the outstanding work happening in our classrooms every day as our students engage in hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for future success."

To earn the PLTW Distinguished Launch School designation, campuses must demonstrate broad student participation in PLTW programs across grade levels while providing students with engaging, project-based STEM learning opportunities.
Students participating in PLTW Launch explore real-world concepts through activities that encourage creativity, teamwork, and innovation while building a strong academic foundation in STEM fields.
"Research shows that interest in STEM begins early and can be nurtured throughout a student's academic journey," said Dr. David Dimmett, president and CEO of PLTW. "We are proud to recognize Harmony campuses in Midland and Odessa for their dedication to preparing students for future opportunities through meaningful learning experiences."
Harmony Public Schools continues to expand educational opportunities across the Permian Basin, including the opening of Harmony School of Innovation Odessa Middle-High and the new Harmony Science Academy Midland Middle-High in Fall of 2027.
