TxDOT plans overnight closure for I-35 bridge work in Waco
The Texas Department of Transportation plans to close New Road under Interstate 35 one night next week as part of construction on a new northbound bridge.
The closure is scheduled from 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday, according to a TxDOT press release. The highway department said all I-35 main lanes and frontage roads will remain open in both directions during the work.
All eastbound and westbound lanes of New Road, along with the frontage road's turnaround under the interstate, will close while crews set beams for the bridge.
Westbound New Road traffic can detour north along the frontage road to Primrose Drive, then go under I-35 and come back to New Road.
TxDOT suggests that eastbound New Road traffic detour south on the frontage road to Loop 340 and turn around at Bagby Avenue, then take Loop 340 back to I-35's northbound frontage road in order to continue on New Road.
TxDOT reminds drivers to pay attention while in construction zones and to follow the 55 mph speed limit for safety.
The bridge work is part of a four-year, $234 million rebuild project to expand the interstate to four main lanes in each direction, up from three, along with building new overpass bridges and reconfigured interchanges. The highway project is scheduled to wrap up in 2029.
