South Dakota-based company claims $78M winning ticket in Brownsville
May 11-A $78 million jackpot-winning ticket sold in Brownsville was claimed six days before it was set to expire.
The Texas Lottery announced Monday that Jua-Ri Trust Agreement Trident Trust Company Inc. claimed the winning ticket on May 8.
The South Dakota company based in Sioux Falls cut it close in claiming the prize as it was set to expire May 14 - the final day of a 180-day deadline following the draw date.
Initially, the Texas Lottery announced the winning ticket for the Nov. 15, 2025 draw of the Lotto Texas game was purchased at Gordon's Bait & Tackle in Brownsville.
The prize had gone unclaimed, and in April, the organization announced it still had not been claimed.
Now, Jua-Ri Trust Agreement Trident Trust Company Inc. received $43,757,223.10 before taxes, according to the news release. During the time of purchase, the cash value was selected.
Under Texas law regarding the lottery, a ticket holder forfeits any claim to a prize for a draw game after the expiration of the 180th day.
