Sheriff's Office opens new hub with focus on public safety, tactical operations

May 9-The Webb County Sheriff's Office opened its expanded headquarters this week, hosting veterans and U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar for a tour of the facility in downtown Laredo.

The expanded building also includes amenities targeting border operations, including the Border Community Tactical Operations Center.

The center serves as a space where officers can make decisions during critical incidents while improving safety for local schools, businesses and the community.

Through advanced technology, including the use of drones, the Sheriff's Office can monitor real-time situational awareness and actionable intelligence to support operations across Webb County. It also allows for monitoring of high-risk public areas and improves coordination and support for crime prevention.

"These capabilities represent a commitment to innovation, preparedness and the protection of our community. The Webb County Sheriff's Office continues to utilize these tools as part of a proactive, forward-thinking approach to law enforcement and community safety," Sheriff Martin Cuellar said.

U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar also toured the facility, which was supported by $1,432,944.49 in federal ARPA funding he helped secure.

"This investment strengthens public safety coordination, emergency response capabilities and the county's ability to respond quickly during critical situations," Cuellar said. "I'm grateful to the men and women of the Sheriff's Office for their dedication, professionalism and service to our community. Supporting law enforcement, veterans and the resources needed to keep our families safe will always remain a priority."
