Prekindergarten registration open
Prekindergarten registration is ongoing at Ector County ISD.
Stephanie Wright, director of academics-elementary, said pre-K registration started April 1, but it doesn't really stop.
The district is still registering students for the current school year so anyone who has a child of the age that qualifies will be able to sign them up.
Prekindergarten covers students who are 3 and 4 years old.
"Our satellite campuses, except for Austin, only have pre-K 4, but our early learning centers have pre-K 3 and pre-K 4," Wright said.
The early education centers are Lamar, Carver, the YMCA, and this year, Burleson, which is a pre-K center starting this coming year.
Students who attend pre-K perform above the state average for kindergarten readiness in ECISD.
"The statistics are that 90% of the brain development is before the age of 5, so bringing them to pre-K, you're getting them prepared to have a successful school career as well as beyond school," Wright said.
Pre-K also teaches students socialization, taking turns, sharing and gets them into the routine of what school is about.
"It just makes a big difference," Wright said.
This year, the district has just under 1,700 pre-K students.
The registration link is on the main homepage for ECISD.
