Texas A&M investigating antisemitic video of student harassing Jewish students

Texas A&M University is continuing to investigate an incident that occurred earlier this week inside the Memorial Student Center where one student, identified as Yousef Mahdy, a petroleum engineering student at A&M, approached two Jewish students and harassed them for standing at a table with a sign that said, "Students supporting Israel."

In the self-made video, Mahdy approaches the table shouting, "Free Palestine, baby!" before saying to his viewers, "Guys look who I'm with, it's the genocide supporters right here," while filming the two students at the table.

Over the course of the 1-minute, 41-second video, Mahdy calls the students at the table "stinky Zionists" before telling them "we are sick and tired of fighting y'all's stupid wars and our government funding y'all's stupid government."

Mahdy goes on saying "We've been fighting y'all's wars. Our people are dying because of y'all's government. Because of your disgusting Netanyahu government." Mahdy then turns the camera to show his face before saying "when will these guys learn to get the hell out of our country and stop helping murder our people," while pointing back at the students standing at the table.

About 50 seconds into the video, Mahdy calls the pair "stinky Zionists" and "dirty scum." Mahdy turns to leave before returning to the table to ask the students if they are "America first or Israel first" but then saying "Shut up, I don't care" when the student replies saying they are America first. Mahdy then tells the two "we are tired of y'all's terrorist country controlling our government" while one of the students behind the table tells Mahdy that he is harassing them and to leave the area.

Mahdy eventually begins to leave the table after saying, "No more wars in the Middle East. How many wars do y'all want in the Middle East? We are fighting these wars for your country." As Mahdy leaves, he calls the students "dirty guys, disgusting guys."

The video was first shared on X by the group Stop Antisemitism on Wednesday morning and tagged Texas A&M, the Texas A&M University System and the post with the video asked "Why is this harassment allowed?" before tagging Texas A&M University System Chancellor Glenn Hegar.

Hegar released a statement on X later Wednesday that said, "Harassing others with hateful or demeaning language is unacceptable. There is no place at the Texas A&M University System for that kind of behavior. We are reviewing the facts and we will act if our policies have been violated."

A&M confirmed on Thursday that it is actively investigating the situation. In a statement on X, A&M said it "Condemns antisemitism and all forms of hate. Actions in which people seek to target or intimidate members of our community stand in direct conflict with our core values and our expectations of conduct."

The Eagle reached out to Mahdy for comment but had not heard back by press time. The Eagle was unable to determine if Mahdy is still enrolled at A&M or what disciplinary action he might face.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Mahdy is a junior petroleum engineering student and has previously attended Tarrant County College.
