‘Most Texan video you’ll see.’ Man bolts as cop says horse sniffs narcotics in video
What started as a joke turned into a very real horse versus human chase between a facetious police officer and someone they had stopped for walking in the road, video footage shows.
The Lubbock Police Department posted a video of the incident, which has since gone viral, to Facebook on Sept. 24.
The video shows three officers on horseback talking to two men on the side of the road. According to KCBD, two of the officers, Bryson Lewis and William Trotter, thought one man, who they’d stopped when they saw him walking in the road, was acting suspicious so they asked if they could check his pockets.
When the man said no, Trotter casually remarks that he was riding a “narcotics-smelling horse” in the video.
“I was going to make a joke because it seemed like it was going to break some tension. You know, it seemed like it was kind of stiff for a second there,” Trotter said to KCBD.
But right as the words left Trotter’s mouth, the man bolted down a dirt road.
“He kind of took off down the alley and we thought he was joking, but he kept running,” Lewis said to KCBD. “He took it seriously and the chase was on.”
Yes, the officers and their horses managed to catch up with the suspect.
“The Most Texan Video You’ll See Today,” the caption on the Facebook video said in a playful way.
“In case you didn’t know, here at the LPD we have narcotics sniffing horses (just kidding!....or are we?)”
Lubbock is about a 315-mile drive northwest from Fort Worth.
