Authorities in Texas are investigating after they said a mom’s story surrounding the death of her two kids isn’t adding up.

Deputies were called to a home just before 3:30 p.m. Sept. 20 for reports of “hot car deaths involving two children,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a news conference streamed on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page.

Tiona Islar was arrested on charges of injury to child, KSAT reported.

Islar, the mother of the 3-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy, told deputies she found the kids inside a hot car and took them in the house. However, Salazar said there are inconsistencies in the story they were told.

Islar told deputies she last saw the kids around 10 a.m. inside the home before she went to sleep, then found them around 3 p.m. in the car, Salazar said.

“With some of the details that we’re seeing, something’s just not adding up with this case,” he said.

The first deputy who arrived at the scene tried to perform CPR on both kids at the same time, the sheriff said. After EMS arrived, the kids were pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause and manner of death for the kids have not been released; however, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified them as Sevani Stevenson, 6, and Miyani Islar, 3, according to KSAT.

Salazar said child protective services had been called about the family in the past.
