6-year-old boy in UTV with brothers dies in crash, TX cops say. ‘Unimaginable’
A 6-year-old boy was with his brothers in a UTV when it lost control and threw the four kids from the vehicle, resulting in his death, Texas police said.
The boys, between the ages of 6 and 13, were all severely injured and rushed to hospitals after the Polaris UTV rolled over in Gainesville, police said in a July 13 news release.
The 6-year-old boy, identified by loved ones as Raul Chavez, died from his injuries, police said.
Now, the Texas community is mourning the “unimaginable” death.
“Raul was a bright light — joyful, kind, full of curiosity and love,” a family friend wrote in a GoFundMe.
His parents had just purchased goalie gloves for his upcoming soccer season, his mother told WFAA.
“His goal was to be a soccer goalie and could not wait to make those dreams come true. Their presence brought warmth to everyone around them,” the GoFundMe said.
Raul’s soccer club is hosting a candlelight vigil on July 21, the organization said.
“Raul was more than just a player on the field he was a part of our family,” Ennis Soccer Association said in a July 14 Facebook post. “A teammate, a brother, a friend. His spirit, kindness, and smile touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Gainesville is about a 65-mile drive north from Fort Worth.
