Man accused of killing dad and stepmom arrested while playing poker, TX cops say
A man playing poker in Texas was taken out of a club in handcuffs after he was accused of killing his dad and stepmom, deputies said.
Benjamin Frakes, 39, was wanted by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the fatal shooting of a married couple in their Spring home, deputies said. The couple was identified as 72-year-old Franklin Frakes, the suspect’s father, and 56-year-old Florentina Frakes, his stepmother, deputies said.
A neighbor realized she hadn’t heard from the couple after hearing gunshots in the area the night before, so she went to check on them May 16, authorities said. She told deputies she found them shot to death.
Authorities said they believe the couple was killed May 15 when Benjamin Frakes forced himself into their home. The accused shooter was also wounded when the father tried to defend himself, according to deputies.
Benjamin Frakes was found with cocaine, among other drugs, and two firearms when he was taken into custody, Precinct 4 deputies said.
He has been charged with capital murder, deputies said.
Authorities are still searching for a black Mercedes SUV with Texas license plate LPB-2783 believed to have been taken by the suspect, deputies said.
Deputies ask anyone with information to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.
Spring is about a 25-mile drive north from Houston.
