A Texas man wanted to take his mom out for Mother’s Day, but was shot to death by his stepbrother at her home, officials say.

Deputies responded to the home in far north Houston at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10, and found 32-year-old Eduardo Alfaro Jr. with gunshot wounds, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a May 11 news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Alfaro came to his mom’s home to take her out to celebrate Mother’s Day together. But those plans were derailed when he got into an argument with his stepbrother, 50-year-old Charles Storey, Gonzalez said.

Storey may have been on a “drinking binge,” Gonzalez added.

The fight escalated between the men and Storey fatally shot Alfaro, Gonzalez said.

Deputies located Alfaro in an upstairs bedroom, KRPC reported, then they heard someone moving around and discovered Storey hiding in the room.

Storey was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of murder, Gonzalez said.
