Daughter shot in drive-by after dad confronts suspected car thieves, TX cops say
Fingerprints lifted from a stolen car led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man in a drive-by shooting where a woman was struck, Texas deputies said.
A dad noticed two men near his vehicle through his home surveillance cameras on April 22, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said in a May 8 post. He yelled at the two men and they then ran off.
One of the men returned in a vehicle and fired gunshots at the home, deputies said. The bullets struck the front door, window and the homeowner’s daughter, according to deputies. The dad applied a tourniquet to treat his daughter’s gunshot wound.
Later that same day, another shooting occurred, which led investigators to two stolen vehicles, deputies said.
Fingerprints found on the vehicle led to the identification of 18-year-old Caden Sylva, deputies said. He told investigators he was at the scene of the shooting, but then later denied this, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators connected him to the scene through the fingerprints and surveillance footage, which led to his arrest, deputies said.
He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Sylva is held in Bexar County jail on an $80,000 bond.
San Antonio is located in Bexar County.
