Naked neighbor sneaks into woman’s bed and tries to assault her, Texas cops say
A Texas woman woke up to a naked man sneaking into her bed, and now her neighbor has been charged, police said.
Officers responded to a burglary call from an apartment complex after midnight on April 15, the League City Police Department said in an April 30 news release, but it was more than a simple break-in.
The victim told police she was asleep in bed but “awoke to someone touching her leg,” then started to yell as she realized it was a naked man, police said.
“I rolled over and saw a man crawling on my floor,” the woman told KRIV.
He got into the bed and climbed on top of her, but she was able to push him off and get her phone, according to police. He escaped by jumping over the balcony.
The way he got out was the same way he got in, investigators told KTRK. Video captured the man climbing up a balcony and into the apartment at about 11 p.m., meaning he had been in the apartment nearly 90 minutes before the victim woke up, police said.
“He was there that whole time, and I had no clue. It makes me question, ‘Had he been in my apartment before?’” the woman told KTRK.
Investigators identified the intruder as 49-year-old Juan Hernandez, the woman’s downstairs neighbor, who lived in the apartment directly below hers.
Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested Hernandez on April 25.
He’s charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a sexual offense, according to police, and his bond is set at $50,000.
He is also subject to an immigration hold by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, police said.
An investigation is ongoing and police are trying to determine if there are more victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 281-338-4173.
League City is a roughly 25-mile drive southeast from downtown Houston.
